(Malay: Yang Teramat Mulia Paduka Seri Duli Pengiran Muda Haji ‘Abdul ‘Azim) (born 29 July 1982), known as just Prince Azim, is the second born prince of His Majesty Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah. He is the third in line to succeed the throne ofÂ Brunei. He is a well known of the Brunei royal family and is a paparazzi favourite
Azim is the eldest child of the Sultan of Brunei Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah and Pengiran Isteri Hajah Mariam. He is one of twelve siblings. He was educated at St. Andrew’s School, Brunei, International School Brunei and Rosyth Primary School (Singapore), Raffles Institution (Singapore), Leighton Park School (Berkshire, England) and then at Oxford Brookes University (Oxford, England). To instil greater discipline in him, the Sultan of Brunei sent him to attend the nine-month officer training course of the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (Sandhurst, England). (The current Sultan had attended just such a course in his younger days, as Crown Prince of Brunei). However, Azim left Sandhurst after one week. His stint there was the shortest of any member of the world’s royal families. Prince Azim suffered from a heart arrhythmia problem which was surgically corrected in the USA when he was younger.
Prince Azim is known for throwing lavish parties with guest lists that have includedÂ Michael Jackson, Diana Ross and Scarlett Johansson.
His birthday party in 2009 was dubbed the “Party of the Year”. The guest list included Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Sophia Loren, Joan Collins and Faye Dunaway.

He has been accompanying royal visits to seminars, including the ‘International Seminar on Understanding the Ahli Sunnah Wal Jama’ah’ held in conjunction with the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Islamic Da’wah Centre’. Prince Azim also launched theCoworth Park Hotel, a BIA-owned property in Berkshire, London.
Prince Azim was the guest of honour at the “Seeing is Believing” fundraiser in Brunei, which raises awareness about caring for the blind; and also the Sounds of Hope charity concert which raises awareness about poverty in Brunei.
In 2009, he designed unisex weekend bags for MCM. The proceeds went to the Make A Wish Foundation UK, a charity in which he is one of the patrons.
In May 2011, at charity show held at the Empire Hotel and Country Club’s Indera Samudra Hall at which 31 persons with autism performed, Prince Azim said that those with autism should be treated with respect, “as would to any of your family members”
